How to get rid of these sharp polygon shaped shadows on character armour, is my only choice to use high level of subdivision?

Looks like the terminator artifact.
From the
wiki (bottom of the page):
Unfortunately there is no real solution. You can only try to mitigate the effect by subdividing the geometry further and/or increase the size of the light source that is causing the problem.

If you have a bump map on your shader try to make it smaller it work sometimes.

I tried with higher subdivision and it made this problem less visible. I googled this effect and seems that other render engines also have same problem.
Seems there is not a clever solution for it yet?
An article about this matter, it explains this problem pretty well -

It is shadow terminator and it is pretty common issue, and I think both vray and corona have some sort of "fix". I remember Ondra from corona once mentioned that there is a way to "hack" it but not a proper fix I guess.
