On Blenderartists
I'm trying to get owners of the new M1 Pro/Max hardware to join in LuxCoreRender testing.
Hi, I read the post, is it may better to use Luxmark for M1 Pro/Max testing if it work on M1?
The user don´t have to install or setup anything for the test, I guess the barrier is to high for non Luxcore user.
Cheers, mib

You're probably right, there was no response.
Luxmark results can be found on the web already, I was rather trying to prove that GPU rendering on a Mac M1 works with the actual LuxCore version for any kind of scene...

I can do some testing with my 16" Macbook Pro (M1 Max 32 Core GPU) once it arrives (probably around end of december).
I'm very curious how Low Power Mode will effect power usage, fan speed an efficiency.

My Macbook (16" M1 Max 32 Core GPU) finally arrived…
Idle 0% Display Brightness: 6W
Idle 100% Display Brightness: 17W
I ran all these tests at 100% Display Brightness.
I increased the samples from 256 to 2000 because it took a few minutes for the Samples/Sec to ramp up to it’s maximum value.
CPU: 1.6Msmpl/s @ 61W @ 1900rpm
CPU+GPU: 4.6Msmpl/s @ 98W @ 3600rpm
GPU: 3.3Msmpl/s @ 65W @ 2000rpm
Another run with 100% Display Brightness but Low-power Mode activated:
CPU: 1.4Msmpl/s @ 53W @ 1600rpm
CPU+GPU: 3.2Msmpl/s @ 60W @ 1800rpm
GPU: 2.9Msmpl/s @ 57W @ 1700rpm
A few words about fan noise:
Last year I tested two 13“ M1 Macbook Pros and I could hear the humming of the fan motor - the sound was not „smooth“. (Don’t know how to describe it better.) I found that rather annoying.
That’s not the case with the 16“ Macbook Pro, here I only hear the noise of moving air. At 2000rpm it’s not too noisy, I think I could listen to that for a few hours. At 3600rpm I wouldn’t want to sit in front of the Macbook for a longer period of time. (I’m very sensitive in that regard, my old 2013 iMac stays inaudible even under CPU load.)

Interesting to see how well M1 Max scales with CPU+GPU while in the new Metal patch for Cycles adding CPU to GPU is useless.

I wanted to try out rendering an animation with the M1 Max GPU, so I made a fluid simulation and filled the scene with water.
Unfortunately a macOS Update broke GPU rendering with LuxCore and I had to use the CPU.
The simulation isn't perfect, too. But as it took so long I uploaded the video anyway:

I hope it's ok that I used your beautiful scene @Sharlybg - if not I will delete the video on Youtube, of course

Wonderfull.
Aside from shadow color you could have turned white to make light
pass through water everything look great. Even the music !

Like I said on Youtube: Thank you very much for that tip Sharlybg!
I changed the shadow color setting and re-rendered the animation:
