Speed comparison: LuxCore vs Cycles

I recently saw a video by Dravia comparing LuxCore to Cycles, and the results were really good for LuxCore.
I then did a dummy test with a cube, and a plane with a basic texture, and I couldn't get a decent result in LuxCore, the renders have much more grain compared to Cycles. Either, it's due to my lack of knowledge in LuxCore, or it doesn't shine with simple scenes?

LuxCore
lux cube 128samples 26sec.jpg
lux cube 256samples 45sec.jpg
lux cube 512samples 1min23sec.jpg
Cycles
cycles cube 128samples 4sec.jpg
cycles cube 512samples 14sec.jpg
Cycles, at 512 samples took 14 seconds, and it looks quite clean, whereas Lux at 512 samples took 1min and 23 seconds, and it's still noisy.

One thing I realized, the material for the cube doesn't have the same roughness.

In case someone would like to play with it, here's the scene:

It could be that Cycles is faster in such a simple scene. In fact luxcore is faster in complex scenes. It's like if you compare speedvise a sport car and a jet and you take the speed after the first 100 meters... the car will be probably faster. But if you take the speed at 1 km, 10km, 100km or 1000km the jet will be faster.
I think dravias video is all about that.

That's what I thought, perhaps in simple scenes it's not as fast, but it gets faster in more complex scenes.
I'll do some test with a different setup. I really like the quality in LuxCore. Now I want to figure out if I can use it for animation as well.
