Speed comparison: LuxCore vs Cycles

I recently saw a video by Dravia comparing LuxCore to Cycles, and the results were really good for LuxCore.
I then did a dummy test with a cube, and a plane with a basic texture, and I couldn't get a decent result in LuxCore, the renders have much more grain compared to Cycles. Either, it's due to my lack of knowledge in LuxCore, or it doesn't shine with simple scenes?
LuxCore Cycles Cycles, at 512 samples took 14 seconds, and it looks quite clean, whereas Lux at 512 samples took 1min and 23 seconds, and it's still noisy.
One thing I realized, the material for the cube doesn't have the same roughness.
