Displacement problem

Why does this happen with displacement? In this image it's just a regular UV Sphere, but any object I use it seems to break it apart.

Using 2.4 (tried last from the site and also one of the beta builds I used before) with Blender 2.83.3 and 2.83.1

It's actually the first time I tried to use displacement. I followed some tutorials but maybe I missed something?

Set Object to Shade Smooth. "Flat" breaks rendertime displacement - common to raytracers.

Damn, I can't believe I didn't think of that. It should've been obvious given where the breaks occurred.
