Realistic rendering of a 100% jute texture, how do you go about it?
Realistic rendering of a 100% jute texture, how do you go about it?
Hi, I'm currently working on a pretty busy interior scene a sort of minimalist living room with lots of natural materials. The thing that's been stumping me for the past two weeks is the rug and the cushions... all made of 100% jute. I tried starting with a procedural texture in LuxCoreRender, but the final result isn’t great it looks a bit plastic, and you can’t really make out the fibers at all. I tried adjusting the roughness and using a bump node with a custom map I created from a photo I took myself (like a piece of a jute bag laid flat, photographed with low-angle lighting). It’s better, but still not convincing for a close-up. Has anyone else worked on this type of material before? I’m not sure if the key is using actual displacement or if you can get away with a well-configured bump map… I’d really appreciate your feedback.

Just to add a little detail to my previous post, I’ve been looking more closely at real-world jute products to compare the texture with what I’m getting in LuxCoreRender. I found some examples of 100% jute rugs that helped me better understand how irregular the weave actually is, especially in the close-up areas. It makes me think my texture is simply too uniform rather than the bump being too weak. I might try combining a finer bump for the individual fibers with a very subtle displacement for the larger weave pattern. Has anyone tried something similar in LuxCoreRender?
