Addon Material Toolkit for Luxcore

Post by tonyrenzulli »

Hello everyone,
I’m pretty new to this forum, but I’ve been using LuxCoreRender for quite a while now.
I recently created a small Blender add-on that automatically connects PBR textures to the LuxCore Disney material node kind of inspired by the “ Principled Texture Setup” feature in Node Wrangler.
The add-on can:
Automatically recognize the most common PBR texture naming conventions
(BaseColor / Albedo, Normal, Roughness, Metallic, Specular, Height / Displacement, AO, Emission, ORM. ORS ecc)
and connect them to the correct inputs of the Disney node
Create necessary intermediate nodes when needed (for example: Height → Displacement node, or color correction Multiply / Mix nodes)
Convert an existing Cycles PBR material by scanning the used textures and reconnecting everything properly to the Disney node
Connect PBR textures with one single click directly from the LuxCore Material Nodes editor

The main goal is to save a huge amount of time when working with the many free / paid PBR material libraries available online, or when you need to convert materials already present in your scene.
This is particularly helpful in architectural visualization projects, where you often have dozens (or hundreds) of materials and the manual setup becomes really time-consuming, frequently pushing people to fall back to Cycles or Eevee instead of LuxCore.
The add-on is really simple and intuitive to use and, in any case, I’ve made a short video where I quickly explain all the main functions and show it in action. You can find it at this link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... drive_link
I would really appreciate any kind of feedback, bug reports, suggestions or ideas from the community to make it even better.
If there’s enough interest I’m also happy to create a proper GitHub repository and release it properly.
So far it has been tested with:
LuxCore 2.10
Blender 4.2 / 4.5 / 5.0.1
Linux and Windows

Thanks a lot in advance for any comment or test! ;)

Hello,
and thanks a lot for sharing your work!

Activity on this forum is relatively low these days, so you might want to show you work on our Discord channel instead.

About the addon itself, I a not working enough in this area that I could give you practical feedback
From the sound of it, a similar work that I am aware of is this material converter: https://github.com/zorianpl/Material_Converter_Main
If you're not already aware of it, you may want to check it out as well.

Hi,
thanks for the reply and for pointing out the Material Converter addon I didn’t know about it. Yeah, it does look useful, but mine is specifically tailored for Cycles / Eevee and it can recognize textures that the one you mentioned doesn’t take into account: things like combined ORM / ORS maps, it properly detects Emission and connects it via the dedicated node, etc. The other one seems more geared toward people who already have scenes set up in V-Ray or Octane, whereas mine is more practical at detecting various texture types and also reading the settings directly from the Principled BSDF node.
Anyway, I’ve created a GitHub repo where I’ve also updated it to make the texture and material recognition more robust, and I’ll keep it updated there. You can find it at this link:

I’ll definitely join the Discord channel of the group.
Cheers!
