There are many techniques in that video, it would be good if you could show the Cycles node tree of a specific one so we can translate that to Lux, if viable.
A simple trick is something like this: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=102&p=1855#p1902
However the effectiveness is a bit limited (depends on your scene).

I've downloaded the Polygon Node and under the hood is looks very complicated so I'll see how far I can get converting it to Lux.
