Uneven bevel shader

Post by johannes.wilde »

Hello everybody!

A bevel shader is a very nice feature in a lot of render engines, even though you can achieve the same result using blenders bevel modifier.
I ask myself, if there would be possibly a way to create something like an uneven bevel shader for more realistic results for wood or tiles of any kind.
Maybe driven by a noise texture?
For i almost don't no anything about coding, i'm not shure if this is a relevant question.
I just thought about a feature like that several times.

Cheers,

Johannes

It is a somewhat complex feature to implement and with a large impact on code. I have my eyes on this topic but don't expect to see it happens before v2.1 release.

while this is pretty cool feature and mapping distance to simulate beaten edges etc is great.
I'd say this should be dealt with once bigger features are in place. It also slows down rendering, so having actual geometry is always better. However some cad models exported without fine fillets might benefit from this.
