Can we use IES with spot light?

Post by richardbao »

i am testing IES with luxcore(not luxcore for blender) and found the way to use IES seems a little bit weird for me. i assume IES is generally for spot light, but in luxcore, the spot light does not support IES, and only emission material support IES. so i was wondering is there anyway i could use spot light with IES?

You need to use a point light source. It is actually the only really correct way to use a IES profile (because an IES file is the profile of the emitted light around a point).
