A few questions about BiDir Path Tracing

Hello, I have some technical questions about the possibility of BiDir Path Tracing on GPUs.
But at first, I`m very happy about the new API. This is an excellent work! In my renderings its up to 8 times faster than the former version and, that is the best, it supports my GPU, which doubles the speed in normal path tracing! I use an older GPU (Radeon HD6850M). Cycles doesnt support such old GPUs. :D
Now the question: I`m new to this topic so I ask just for understanding. I like BiDir renderings, but it lasts so long on my system (Core I5-2410M :oops: ).
So what makes it so difficult to implement BiDIr path tracing on GPU? Is it the complexity of the alghorithm? Is it correct that GPUs are very fast but even very special and that is the problem with implementation of BiDir rendering on GPU? Can you advise some links or so, where I can read about this topic?
