Does vieport CPU rendering obey CPU Threads parameter? To me it's like CPU gets fully loaded when I set viewport to rendering mode.
It's Windows 7 x64 I'm using.

Same OS: W7SP1x64
Tested just now & it works well with official BlendLuxCore v2 & v2.1 alpha4.
Which addon version are you using?
*edit: "CPU Threads" control works fine for viewport even with latest daily
NOTE: when fiddling with materials and shaders, allways all threads are used, since for "Material Preview" there are no user settings available.

Same version. I wouldn't say it works well, but yeah it probably does obey cpu thread settings, in a weird way though.
Did you try to rotate the view while rendering is on? For me, it uses more cpu then I'd like it to. I set threads to 1, so it is 80~90% load at most and blender won't freeze.
p.s. with 2 or more it's 100% cpu load and blender freezes
