Sunset

Post by B.Y.O.B. »

I ported an old unfinished scene to BlendLuxCore.
Still needs some work, e.g. better trees, better water etc.
Maybe also some more image elements.

AMD HD 7970 GHz, Path OpenCL + Sobol (adaptive), 6min render time, around 12 Mio. tris (many particles).

No clamping at all.
By the way the sky and sun in the background are just a JPG on a light emitting plane.
I'll have to improve that because it makes the lighting a bit flat.

The mix of water ripple and calm splotches is brilliant.

An update.
I'm now using a cropped portion of an HDRI on the light emitting plane in the background, mixed with the JPG I had earlier, for a bit better lighting.
Still had to resort to a fake sun (coming somewhere from the left) to get a nice rim light.
Unfortunately I can't make the light emitting background plane invisible to the sun.

I need to improve the trees.

Somehow my water shaders quickly go over board.
Thanks for your comments :)

This time 8min PathOCL+Sobol, this time with clamping.

I try to avoid filling my GPU memory with a giant HDRI that you only see 10% of (where the camera is looking).
I should probably do it differently: Use low-resolution HDRI with transparent film and then add the backplate in compositing. However the reflection in the water would not match in that case.
