Let this render out while I was at work, 10k samples. Also decided to make the cube I have the gemstones inside for lighting completely sealed (to prevent excessive glare) and with satisfying results.

Took 2h, 43min and 26sec to render (CPU only). I love my i7.

Sorry for being inactive, rather busy now as of late. College classes fast approaching most importantly.

Decided to return to an old lighting setup that always works well for this kind of thing. I'm sure many of you from the old forums will recognize it if you look hard enough :P I had to modernize some settings for 2.0, of course.

Currently I'm extremely pleased with the lighting. That, or I finally have gotten the hang of messing with the manual camera settings in LuxBlend.

Modeling the gem itself took around 5-10 minutes :)

I use diagrams that I browse for on faceting websites (I usually follow them by mere glances instead of tracing them directly in Blender, unless absolutely necessary) I feel that having an exact trace can potentially detract from human errors in the faceting process, much like in real life. No gem is perfectly cut to diagrams, although it is hard to tell most of the time when they look so beautiful to begin with ;)
