Test LuxCore and Indigo - simple scene

Post by LichtSpiel »

I am looking to add LuxCore and specifically Blend Lux Core to my workflow.
Indigo Renderer is a very capable render engine. The Blender exporter for Indigo was initially developed by one of the original developers of the Luxrender plugin for Blender, but since he stopped development a few years ago the plugin has not really seen the development it deserves.

The geometry of the scene is obviously very simple, a twisted torus and a curved plane.
The material is lead crystal with couchy B and tabulated absorption spectra.
The lighting is the Circus Arena HDRI from Polyhaven with 50+ small high intensity light sources.

I used the same camera response functions and tried to get the velvet material somewhat close.
I have not yet tried to match the white point.

Also in Indigo I used pure path tracing on the GPU only. In Luxcore I used Light tracing, which I used Both the CPU and GPU.
The purpose of the comparison was only to see if I could get similar results with somewhat similar computing power.

The results speak from themselves.

Pretty impressive work LuxCore Team!
