About a month ago, I decided to try using glass shader for hair, and I got success!
For example, here is a test with matte translucent + glossy coating:
Already not as good as the option with glass, right?

Сolor should be very light and not saturated, otherwise you will get a very saturated hair color, which does look completely unrealistic:
You also need to use anisotropic roughness, this creates natural specular on the hair.
I hope this information comes in handy someday
But not everything is so simple, this is BIDIR + Metropolis, the renderer took 11 hours and is still quite noisy, but if it is not an animation, I would definitely use this method, because the glossy traslucent looks like plastic tubules for drinks.
