That is mindblowing the quantity of details people were able to deal with at that periode.
Btw the way the saturation image look low. So i wonder wich level is closer to reality.

To me the pictures are relatively close to the real. Is your monitor calibrated? The picture you posted has a very strong red dominance.

Ppl got time w/o much disruptions in those days...
Maybe a bit better: Mantiuk TM, taken red out of whites and warmed up gold.
