Here in Estonia we only have 1 case. It was funny story how it went down.
There was bus with 22 passengers. 1 passenger fell ill and called himself a ambulance.
Later he was diagnosed with Corona but nobody knew in which bus he was traveling.
The bus driver went back to work next day.
Then they started calling bus companies, hey was it you who had sick Iranian on board, so they could track down other passengers.

If they can make vaccine before it spreads, then Corona won't become worse than Spanish flu.
Spanish flu infected 27% of earth population in 3 years.
Corona has little higher mortality rate than Spanish flu.

In Switzerland, we have the sixth highest rate per 100’000 people of Covid-19 positive tested (corona virus is too unspecific, there are plenty of them not dangerous for humans). There is only Italy having more Covid-19 ill people in Europe.

Swiss press gathers data and information from different sources, one of them is already linked Hopkins University. The local press draws their own informative graphics and charts.
die-wichtigsten- grafiken-zum-coronavirus (means: Coronavirus, the most important graphics)
Italy is our neighbour country in the south. Milano, a really nice north Italian city with a tremendous and very nice, famous dome, is about the epicentre of Covid-19 outbreak in Italy is only an one hour car trip from Switzerland border. Most first corona positive tested in Switzerland caught the virus in or around Milano.
At least since Marco Polo Italy supports business and in the latest decades good relationship with China. Many visitors and businessmen exchange frequently between these two countries. Due to the fact this virus spreads from people to people days before any symptom of illness appear and way of infection is not perfectly clear today general precautions like having distance of at least 2 m between people if sharing space for more than 15 minutes and much more important washing hands thoroughly with soap and fluent water frequently.

The topic is omnipresent in our local news. A bit too present for my taste but there are many people dying, the older the ill more probable it dyes, at increasing rate above age of fifty and besides age there are many common chronic illnesses responsible for further deaths in combination with Covid-19.

Maybe influenza kills more people but that is not the point, corona does not replace it adds deaths.

Well said!

Moreover, comparison with flu is partly misleading. Spanish flu happened 100 years ago: medical knowledge, health standards and national health system all over the world were totally different.
Today flu kills a lot of people also because an enormous quantity of people get it, but its percent mortality is much smaller than Covid-19, according to present knowledge.

According to the news we receive every day, Covid-19 evolves in a high number of cases (when compared to other illnesses) into severe pneumonia, with patients needing long-time hospital care for assisted breathing.
The amount of intensive care places available in hospitals for such patients is based on the average need for such treatments, and now this new disease is stretching the system because of the high number of new patients.
Lombardy, the Italian region with Milano and the highest number of Covid-19 cases, has begun sending patients to hospitals in nearby regions, to free up space for new arrivals, while in the meantime new intensive care places are being set up.
That's why, at this time when the number of cases is still rising steadily, the greatest fear for authorities is the risk of collapse for hospitals, hence the continuous stress on containment measures (apart from the obvious aim of not felling ill of a potentially severe illness).

I also think its a good idea to do the precautonary measures to keep a controlled flow in the hospitals. After all, most of the large events that can be and now are being cancelled like concerts and football games can be replaced by other entertainment activities. They are already noticing an increased TV usage in Germany as people are staying home in the evenings. Although its easy to say for me, as I am never going to such events anyways
My Uni confirmed the first case of a student today, and there is already information passed inofficially that they might close down tomorrow. It only seems like a matter of time. But because most science is home-office friendly, it probably wouldn't set us back much.

And here we are! The Italian Government has imposed the closure of all the business activities which are not crucial (so, we can still go to buy food or medicines, gasoline and a few others) and to all citizens to stay at home until March 25. Hopefully, these restrictions to mobility and to social contacts will start to produce some results in a couple of weeks, not earlier.
