Hi, i would like to switch from cycles to LuxCore and have a few question

Is there any information how many active LuxCore users there is, or how many times LuxCore gets downloaded monthly? I also would like to know how big is the development team at the moment behind this amazing engine.

You can check the GitHub download statistics here:

- BlendLuxCore => https://www.somsubhra.com/github-releas ... endLuxCore
- LuxCoreRender standalone => https://www.somsubhra.com/github-releas ... ry=LuxCore

Note: the automatic build tagged "latest" is updated every time so the statistics are reset all the times.

This is the list of people with right to directly commit to some of the LuxCore source repositories: https://github.com/orgs/LuxCoreRender/people

Some detail about LuxCore contributors: https://github.com/LuxCoreRender/LuxCor ... ntributors

Some detail about BlendLuxCore contributors: https://github.com/LuxCoreRender/BlendL ... ntributors

Thanks Dade for this information. It seems that there are more users that I was expecting. :)

Maybe stupid question but, how can we make LuxCoreRender more popular with cycles users?

Have blender developers showed any interest with LuxCoreRender?

It is an uphill battle: Cycles is included in Blender, LuxCore is not. Every single Blender user will first learn Cycles than, if he/she is unhappy will start to look around and, may be, decide to put the effort to learn a new rendering package. It is clearly a very hard battle, being a bit better is not enough, you need to be a lot better to justify the additional effort to switch.

Eevee may slightly shift the balance (if people first learn Eevee and they are likely to be unhappy if they look for photo-realism) but it is a very small difference.

Not recently in LuxCoreRender, LuxRender has a 10 years long history and there is some old stuff is not even worth mentioning now.

For me the biggest reason why i haven't yet changed to Lux is uncertainty about its future. I would say that my biggest fear is that if i start to learn a new render engine and suddenly development stops, because of lack of developers.

Well, everything is possible but LuxRender/LuxCoreRender is one of the oldest render engine project, it is probably second only to POV-Ray. Blender is older but Blender internal is dead and Cycles is a kid compared LuxRender age.

Just to let you feel reassured about the future of Cycles :mrgreen: No one find strange the introduction of Eevee ? I mean, you have Cycles in house and you start to work on Eevee, why ?

Have Lux developers tried to collaborate with other renderengine coders, for example Appleseed team?

In distance past, there was a tentative to collaborate with Yafaray but it didn't work out. The problem is: it is particularly hard to find something to share with another and different render engine. There are different needs and features to support/implement/etc.
