Re: Luxcore and memory
Alright so here are some results of path vs tilepath ram usage: scene in blender before rendering: 3.3GB mostly empty scene and cycles at any resolution gives below 4GB RAM usage luxcore: cpu+PATH: 256x256: 5.8 GB denoiser: 5.9 GB 2048x2048: 8 GB denoiser: 10.3 GB cpu+TILEPATH: 256x256: 5.8 GB denoi...

Re: sobol and metropolis
So here are my results: All settings except metropolis are at default. using cpu+path+dlc and no clamping There is clearly a big difference in performance between metropolis(mutation probability:100,max rejects:1) and random sampler. It does give a different look, but in cases where time is more imp...

Re: sobol and metropolis
To clarify, using low reject values and mutation probability of 100 should give same result as random sampler?(with the exception of random sampler being maybe faster?) If the large mutation probability is 100% there are no small mutations, so the max. rejection number doesn't matter anymore. Now I...

Re: sobol and metropolis
That said, what does the reject value do? :D The max. mutation rejection value is the max. number of consecutive small mutation rejected. Intuitively, it stops Metropolis to be stuck on small mutation of very bright paths: the default value allows up to 512 consecutive small mutation of a very brig...

Re: Luxcore and memory
I will check back on this, thanks for the input. This memory usage is my biggest concerns for now.

Re: sobol and metropolis
Also not only I get better noise performance using metropolis at 90% mutation and 4 rejects. But also no fireflies and in a moderately clean render also no denoiser artifacts(which show a lot using default 40% mutation probability) A 90% of large mutation probability means Metropolis works like a p...

Re: Luxcore and memory
sadly can't test now. But I'm pretty sure the memory consumption was +/- the same.Dade wrote: ↑Fri Aug 10, 2018 3:32 pmNo, it shouldn't it uses just one single Film.FarbigeWelt wrote: ↑Fri Aug 10, 2018 11:45 am What is about path tile rendering? Does it also consume lot of memory?

sobol and metropolis
So I haven't seen too much differences in my test when testing sobol and random. One is better in one case but worse in other and vice versa. However I'm seeing pretty big differences when using metropolis in combination with direct light cache and tweaked settings. I know that it introduces some bi...

Re: Luxcore and memory
LuxCore uses all cores at 100%. So I guess part of the RAM usage is duplicating the film across threads for better performance? Yes, Currently for each cpu thread seperate film is allocated. So as the film size or thread count (current and futrue AMD CPU's have 32 & 64 threads) increases, the m...

Re: LuxCoreRender v2.1alpha3 released
Luxcore_Statistics(compare slots). I've not noticed this feature before; but whether it is new or not, it is cool! You've fixed the Light Group issue-thank you. I've wasted a lot of time trying to work out how to render sofas in Luxcore (a long story); it's time for me to start being more creative ...
