This activates cache entries on the material surface, which is independent from volume entries controlled by the checkbox in the volume node.
The invisibility or grayed-out display of those settings in BiDir is a bug IMHO.

Re: Prism Caustics

So I tried recreating the scene you attached from scratch and it still doesn't work somehow. In your file the photon cache is not checked for the glass volume. Somehow you cannot see this with BiDir engine so switch to path engine first. Now you can see the "use PhotonGI Cache" checkbox i...

Re: Prism Caustics

2) For some reason I never fully understood (or bothered to folow up), the first ray of light tracing is not visible. It is a very improbable path for eye tracing: - a scatter event needs to happen right inside the laser beam (from random distribution in the whole volume area) - the scattering angl...

Re: Prism Caustics

As already mentioned above, a proper volume setup is crucial. - homogenous volume with scattering and IOR>1 assigned via pointer as interior to the prism - homogenous volume with scattering and IOR=1 assigned via pointer as exterior to the prism, as interior to the volume cube and also checked for t...

Re: LuxCoreRender Wallpaper

It's a shame that this iconic luxrender scene is gone, with all the other old stuff as well it seems.
Here is the version from my previous post that runs with current LuxCore 2.6 using caustic cache:

Re: Caustics Problem

In your file the world background is set to HDRI with no image attached, the white background is blowing out the caustics from the sun. Once I switch to Sky background the caustics appear: screenshot.jpg The lighting system was changed in a previous version, possibly that's why sun + white backgroun...

Mirror and Metal materials work two-sided, Disney and Glossy only one-sided :?

Re: LuxCoreRender Instagram page

This is a very good idea, there are many talented artists on this forum granting high quality content. I'm okay with TAO, who is a developer and an artist as well, taking control. Having no Instagram myself but having made lots of (mostly caustics like this ) animations over the last years I would l...

Re: Cornell slomo animation loop

Thanks guys! how did you get the waves to loop perfectly? It's done in post video editing by fading out the ending while fading in the beginning which shortens the clip a bit. I rendered only 160 frames (25 hrs) and the blending took away 30 frames or so. When closely inspecting the frames of the la...
