These results are crazy.
It is the combo light tracing/metropolis sampler, it is just insanely good to render caustic paths. It is like rendering in one sample what usually take 1000.

Re: Hybrid Back/Forward path tracing (aka BiDir without MIS)

But still there are cases where the sky isn't properly rendered: (right: BiDir, left: original file with hybrid and PGI) Screenshot.jpg cube3_LuxCore.zip EDIT: Probably not a hybrid path issue: simple PathOCL also does not show the sky, but RTPath does :? It is the result of a malformed scene: you ...

Re: Hybrid Back/Forward path tracing (aka BiDir without MIS)

Are you sure to use the latest binaries ? Can you post a test scene ? I've downloaded the binaries again, but it's the same. Try to render the scene with normal path tracing: it is all black because it has never been able to render lasers and lasers-like light sources (i.e. area lights with an emis...

Re: Disney BRDF material

The Disney BRDF has a different roughness scale, how does this work with glossiness.userthreshold parameters in PGI and hybrid path? The values is used as it is and compared with the threshold. Worst case would be when a user mixes f.i. metal + Disney materials and the respective roughness values d...

A small problem:
Volumetric light isn't visible before a specular bounce with hybrid, however after it it's much brighter than with traditional BiDir.
It is working fine here (and it is mind blowing fast):

Are you sure to use the latest binaries ? Can you post a test scene ?

Re: Hybrid Back/Forward path tracing (aka BiDir without MIS)

While the concrete scene works again, still my glass cubes won't show sky reflections. Your scene is working fine here: ok.jpg Are you sure to use the latest binaries ? When hybrid lightpass always uses metropolis sampler, would we need to adjust the settings in certain situations? In my testing it...

Ok, thanks! I understand now. But I thought MIS is only used in bi-directional path tracing... does it also affect regular path tracing like PATHOCL?
Yes, the classic example:

But now the infinite lights are off again:

horizontal split and way too strong caustics :?:
Try again (with the under construction build).

Re: Hybrid Back/Forward path tracing (aka BiDir without MIS)

I might have found a bug: This is a scene with metal material, roughness 0.1, glossiness threshold set to 0.2 so the glossy reflections of this material are handled by the light tracer. However it looks like the normal path tracer is also still tracing these reflections because they are very noisy....

Re: Transitioning from VRay to LuxCoreRender

It is prone to generate more fire flies because the light source can be sampled only with direct light sampling (while you can use both direct light sampling and direct light hits of the eye path). Can you elaborate a bit? I don't quite understand. Thanks! LuxCore uses MIS (Multiple Importance Samp...
