info on scene stats, Lux settings... There's the file and here the wall textures. Problems occurred with the cache settings. Persistent cache was used to achieve stable lighting over all frames with indirect cache. That didn't work perfectly, there is slight flickering. Caustic cache was also used ...

Thanks, using a PC with Ryzen 3900X (Eco Mode) & RTX 3060 @ 120W (wall power draw 260W) I rendered 450 frames a 7.5 min ≈ 2.4 days.

another animation

Several meshes derived from the menger sponge rendered with hybrid path + indirect & caustic caches. Lightning is a bit unstable.

This activates cache entries on the material surface, which is independent from volume entries controlled by the checkbox in the volume node.
The invisibility or grayed-out display of those settings in BiDir is a bug IMHO.
