Tuning the start radius even smaller greatly increases the time when you start seeing VM bad side. What can be done is 20+ png renders that you can blend together in photoshop. The smaller radius did not work out, even after 20 000 passes, the non VM looks way better.

I used start radius 0.001 for this cube model of 2 m in size.
So, something smaller should be used.
Also the hdr lighting looks way better.

The BiDirVMcpu sort of works, but the caustics ain't that sharp.

When i export with filesaver "only write luxcore scene" in LuxCoreBlend, it converts hdr format light map into exr format where on sun, the pixels are bright 10 000 000 000. This is brighter than on original hdr light map times the hemi lamp gain used. Also, the scene.scn file points to exported exr...

I have perhaps related issue with slow sampling through archi glass and non archi glass. I set the sun size 10x and sun gain 10x and 60W light bulb inside room is overpowering the sun with linear tonemapper. Sun comes in from another openings by reflecting from another surfaces, but not through glas...

The BiDirVMcpu doesn't play well with the refresh interval at all. Single light layer and the rest time is 0 with 7000 ms update.

Single default light group with path, lag gone, almost perfect 16-17 ms.
Single default light group with bidir, 4000 ms, still menus can be opened in LuxCore ui.
