Re: playing with caustics
Thanks!
I have more ideas, but not all will be possible to render on my hardware, Bidir with no GPU support and no integrated denoiser has its limits.
Can't wait to get my hands on the new PhotonGI cache thingy, fast caustics on GPU will be a dream come true

New animation of IOR, shape and rotation.
Forgot to disable automatic tonemapping but after retiming to 50% it is less visible.

More than two days, 7-8 min x 420 frames.

Ice on Dirt
Modeled in Cheetah3D, textured and rendered in BlendLuxCore on my Macbook, Bidir metro 3000 samples in 4.5 h, denoised in PS.
Will try a cleaner version tomorrow.
Rough glass takes much longer to render than in old LuxRender.

Very nice 'preview'!
I would add some water below this ice or a fine, small layer of ice here and there as if the wind blew snow over the ground and in some grooves it stuck.

Re: playing with caustics
I‘ve planned to setup example scenes and write a short what-to-consider for CPU BiDir, Metropolis and Filters settings to get quite fast renders for caustics and/or scattering volumes, with a reasonable noise.epilectrolytics wrote: ↑Wed Jan 16, 2019 8:01 pm I have more ideas, but not all will be possible to render on my hardware, Bidir with no GPU support and no integrated denoiser has its limits.
