Texture view in Blender viewport

Post by camara »

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I can see my textures in any of blender's viewport modes. I see all materials grey. I know that the render in viewport is very fast now and I can see all the tweaks to the materials but for uv mapping and precise texture placing a preview on the viewport would be nice. It's also a very fast away to see which models have which materials.

It'snt currently supported. so for texture you have to manually add it in UV editor to make it visible in blender texture mod.

1/ add cube

2/ unwrapp

3/ with all verticle selected or visible in UV editor choose the texture you want to see in you viewport.

4/ note that luxcore will not update by selecting automatically the map in your material node

5/ the update is done via UV editor

It' a bit annoying for archviz but we are just at the beginning ;)

about this, I've found that a good workaround to speed up this workflow is the solution is adopting the Vray4Blender.

Their solution is: when you double click on the imagefile node, Blender load that image and show you on the object with that material assigned.
It speeds up a bit the texture visualization process.

Could it be doable here?

This is the relevant issue in the tracker: https://github.com/LuxCoreRender/BlendLuxCore/issues/38

I have spent some time in the past trying to set the texture in Blender's OpenGL viewport, but I did not succeed.

Is their code open source? Do you have a link to it?
Would be great to find some example how to use the Blender API here.

Would have been faster if I had my notebook with me at uni today.

There is a little problem with the new option "show in viewport" : It doesn't respect material face matching. I mean sometime when i hit this button the texture cover the entiere object.
