Trying to nail down the LEGO material

Post by Lights_and_Shadows »

Hey folks, been a while :)

Still tackling my long-running LEGO passion project lol. idk if some settings were adjusted between updates in the past few months, but I for the life of me cannot seem to nail down a proper SSS effect for the bricks. Really noticed it when making the light blue (or Maersk blue) color. My version is lighter than the photo reference I am using here:
Swooshable Flickr photostream sample

Swooshable also provides RGB hexadecimal values for the colors, which I am using.

My version:

Windows 7 Professional, x64
Intel Core i7 6700K, 4GHz
EVGA GeForce GT740 Superclocked, 4GB GDDR5
32GB RAM DDR4 (approx. 80GB with pagefile active)
RAID 0 configured HDD setup (2x 500GB Seagate Barracudas)

I figured out what I was trying to do, thanks to Sharly's tutorial from 2.79. Works wonderfully. :)

Alright, this is more for those specialty materials that were found only in Bionicle sets. These were quasi-metallic -- more of just the regular AB plastic with a metallic paint applied, but I found a few that have more than one color in their reflections, so-called "flip flop" colors. Is there a way to have a material change color based on viewing angle or so I have to settle with a close guess?

One such example, pulled from Ryan Howerter's Flickr feed (a great resource for those who are also interested in this, check it out :D)

In Cycles this could be done using the Fresnel node as the mix factor for combining two materials, but idk if Luxcore has a similar function (planned or otherwise)

Try to experiment with absorption color in luxcore shader node. It can change color depending of the view angle. i use this effect for my carpaint tut here :
