shadow terminator

Post by lacilaci »

how high or low on the "todo" list is treatment of the shadow terminator?
I'm gonna need some sharp lighting on cad models and I'm scared

Subdivision surface wouldn't help?

it's a cad tesselated model, you can't subdivide those, also subdivision doesn't help much with stronger bump mapping.
On top of all that I will probably have to use some sharper lighting at some point and that will definitely look much worse.

This needs to be fixed/treated... The question is when.

I also wonder if it is possible to make the bump mapping so that stronger values don't break overal lighting. Cause sometimes I tweak bump mapping close up and everything looks nice, then I back off with camera and it's a shit show of weird lighting

I see...

The Disney BRDF uses a different glossy model, maybe it will help.
