Is there any technical reason that can prevent Photon GI to work with Light groups ?
Light group support for PhotonGI?
Re: LuxCoreRender v2.1/2.2 features poll
It would require a separate PhotonGI cache for each light group, so the answer is: memory usage.
Re: LuxCoreRender v2.1/2.2 features poll
It is a risk i want to take. this feature is mind blowing already and have it speed up will be even great. we can add the feature with a flag like " high memory consumption "It would require a separate PhotonGI cache for each light group, so the answer is: memory usage.
for those of us with 32 to 128 giga of RAM it is limitating.
Anyway i'm going to make the tutorial and hope it can be add in the futur. thanks for answer.
Re: LuxCoreRender v2.1/2.2 features poll
Last time I checked, PhotonGI didn't really use much memory at all (from kilobytes to a few megabytes at most).
Maybe I'm incorrect, but if that's still the case, I doubt light group support would be a problem.

Re: LuxCoreRender v2.1/2.2 features poll
It is also GPU ram, not only CPU.
Re: LuxCoreRender v2.1/2.2 features poll
We can also allow the user to pause the render while be able to save a given light groups mix. Then make another light groups mix and save the new result.
This will be awesome.
This will be awesome.
Re: LuxCoreRender v2.1/2.2 features poll
This should be possible even if GPU ram can be limitating. Now even AMD have out of core like feature and GPU will get even more RAM this years. Also CPU is still there to cover the Topic as We get a boost from PGI.
SERIOUSLY LUXCORE IS SAVAGE
This light groups impress me even if i know it since the old Lux. The Tutorial on this one will be awesome
Re: LuxCoreRender v2.1/2.2 features poll
In the hall bench scene, the VRAM usage is:
- without cache: 1029 MiB
- with cache: 1031 MiB
- without cache: 1029 MiB
- with cache: 1031 MiB
Re: Light group support for PhotonGI?
I also think it’s worth it.
But don’t forget about clamping for light groups, they are not so useful without clamping (just mentioning it, not trying to get a thread-hijack )

Re: Light group support for PhotonGI?
Do you mean a separate clamping parameter for each light group ? It may be very easy to add.
