RTX2080Ti - OpenCL faster than CUDA / Optix?

Post by juangea »

I just tested a scene we are working on, by mistake I used the OpenCL configuration before, with the latest BlendLuxCore 2.5, downloaded today, and this is the result:

OpenCL - 2:34:

CUDA / Optix ( I assume it is using Optix because it's an RTX card) - 2:43 :

Both renders with the kernel already compiled.

What's going on here?

It is not normal. The rendering time is very short so it may something in the pre-processing too. How is the reported samples/sec ? Do is happen for a 10mins rendering too ? Do you have a test scene ?

Hey Dade.

I can send you this scene privately, it's from a project but if it's in private I have no trouble.

I have to deliver this morning, I'll try to do some tests to answer your questions.

I'll try to speak you on Discord to send you the scene, today, but a bit later :)

Thanks!

You can export the scene in LuxCore format in CLAY mode and send me just the .cfg/.scn/etc. files zipped (may be it is small enough at that point for a forum PM). It should be enough.

I prefer to send you the whole scene with all the shaders and lighting, with everything, but I can send it to you with a link from a PM here, no problem, as soon as we deliver the project I'll prepare it :)

AMD or NVIDIA GPU ? Version of LuxCore used ?

First of all check if you have a working OpenCL installation by running LuxMark i.e. if it doesnt work, there is a problem with OpenCL drivers.

I said all that information in the first thread.
And drivers are correctly working in both systems.

Keep in mind that OpenCL is being FASTER than CUDA, not SLOWER (which is what should be expected with a 2080Ti)

I have to upload the scene yet, I had no time basically :)
