I assume you mean a random color but constant across some time of domain ... but what domain ?

In your case a "Material ID" texture would not work because you are using the same volume across all objects.

For entire object. But it would be possible to scale this value with procedural texture.
When you have 4000 glass balls / objects with same material and volume, you would have different color for every ball with some parts of balls being able to be 100% colorless.
In objectid color material, you don't have 3d parts being 100% colorless mixed with some parts having colored absorption and scattering.
