Blue Butterflies (nature attempt with LuxcoreRender)

Hi guys! This is my attempt of creating nature scene with Luxcore. The scene took me 2 months to create as I dont have much time to spend so i was working on it in short periods of time. Anyway...very difficult subject

Path CPU Sobol 4500 samples about 6h of rendertime....I could not render on GPU as memory peak for this scene is above 8gb (lots of particle systems and 4k textures). Post in Darktable and Gimp for the lens flare effect. I have used GRASSWALD addon for grass and weeds distribution. Some free assets from MEGASCANS. Stump in the back is from BLENDSWAP done by souche06. Bushes in the back done with sapling. Trees done with skin modifier and particle systems. Scene is lit with HDRI and SUN and small area light. Luxcore Image pipeline addons used for mist and background image.

Overall a good result, some critique/tips:

- the tree leaves are too random, they don't look realistic. If you look at photos like this one, the leaves are not rotated totally random, they are all more or less horizontal.
- The mist imagepipeline plugin is not suited for strong fog like in your image because it uses the Depth AOV, which is not anti-aliased. This creates visible dark and jagged edges around foreground objects. Unfortunately LuxCore does not have an anti-aliased mist AOV like Cycles, so I'm not sure how this could be improved. You can use a homogeneous volume for realistic fog, but this might be hard to fine-tune and usually makes the render slower.

The Graswald plants really look great. The rocks on the left are also top notch!
The rocks on the right look a bit low-res to me.

Really like the water point and grass arround it ! Realistic tree and glossy transclucent for trees leaves will really male it greater.

Thanks for your critique. I know there is lots to improve in this scene  Sharlybg this scene is almost only glossy translucent  also for tree leaves.
B.Y.O.B...yes the dark edges around objects is a problem and I didnt know how to avoid it so I left it like it is. Anyway i have lerned a lot about Luxcore doing this one and its time to move on.

I added a warning to the mist plugin UI.

Understandable. But if you are motivate to revisit this scene in a few weeks or months, this could become a really great image :)

Great :!: When you sort out the mist plugin I will rerender my scene and maybe work more on the trees ;) Cheers

I know there is lots to improve in this scene  Sharlybg this scene is almost only glossy translucent  also for tree leaves.
So You need better settings for glossy shader. Try to experiment it in another blend file and when you get better result that work in any lighting condition copy it to your current project.
Also use many different reference photo to understand the way natural leaves behave to light.
