Dominating Luxcore

Post by Oscar9531 » Wed Feb 26, 2020 6:02 am

Hello guys, I allways wanted to practice this render engine but my PC is a big problem here (AMD Athlon 4X 860k, GTX 750ti, 8GB RAM), I can work fine with Cycles but luxcore in viewport redering is too slow, anyways, that wont stop me to practice this beautiful renderer... Now im here, I will ask this hahaha, I would upgrade my PC but maybe later, now, I can buy at least a new GPU, Does Blender (Luxcore, Cycles, Octane, etc) have bottleneck? I would like to try buying a RX 580 but I know that my CPU is to bad for that card, I wont use it to play games, just for rendering.

This is a WIP I'm working on, I was inspired by the amazing work of Jakub cech

Hi, the bottleneck is AMD, support from Luxrender is good but other engines like Octane does not support AMD cards at all. Cycles Nvidia support is much better than support for AMD.
You need at least the smallest Nvidia RTX card.

Cheers, mib

Hi welcome ! First really like the Lamp it is very well done considering your hardware specs. Anyway as you are on budget build this is my advice.

Nvidia 1650 4Go vs Rx 570 8 Go :

570 = 141£ https://www.topachat.com/pages/detail2_ ... 10285.html
1650 = 160 £ https://www.topachat.com/pages/detail2_ ... 18933.html

Performance on luxcore :

But if you can go higher : just buy this:

Thanks guys!, Im thinking now to better upgrade CPU+MB+RAM first, I will do that for sure but not right now. Im afraid of buying a GPU and have problems with my CPU and RAM limitations :oops: or does is not matter for rendering? I saw some post about bottleneck in games but I dont know how is it going to be rendering :oops:

Oh yes I know that about Octane xD, Can you explain me pls what you mean about "the bottleneck is AMD" do you mean my AMD CPU or AMD in general? or you meant that for Octane? xD If I buy a RX570 or a GTX1650 like Sharlybg mentioned, Can I render without problem with my AMD Athlon or I got some limitations? Thanks!

It really depend as it always a trade off. Do you need absolutely to work with OCTANE render ? If yes ignore any AMD GPU but also i will suggest you to Buy a RTX 2060 Ko or Super. About Ram usage/bottleneck you just have to deal with how much complexity you are ready to go in a rendering Project. RAM usage increase with scene complexity mostly :

4 ___ 8 Gb RAM = Simple to average project

8 ___ 16 GB RAM = Average complexity

16 ___ 32 Gb RAM = Heavy __ Complexe scene

32 ___ 64 GB = Production Ready

CPU Bottleneck = Physics simulation / GI caching computing time / sometime in viewport rendering (RT CPu)

Normally if budget is low and octane isn't a must have for you. Will suggest you to Just go for Rx 570 wivh have 8Go ram and increase your RAM by 8Go if possible this will give you more freedom.

But in case octane is priority : RTX 2060 KO minimum

Also, your AMD Athlon 4X 860k is a lot worse than the GTX 750ti so I would start from upgrading CPU/MB/RAM while you could still use the 750ti for the moment (and upgrade the GPU later).

Lately, there has been a huge step forward in CPUs performance thanks to AMD. It is like day and night compared to the past.

No no, I wont use Octane, I just mentioned it to mention some examples of GPU engines and if there will be bottleneck rendering with GPU because of my CPU in some of those renderers (Just to have an idea of what I risk buying that GPU with my current CPU). My idea is to use and work with Luxcore. Anyways, I think I understood hahaha, I will only have a bottleneck in CPU processes but not in GPU rendering, thanks a lot! :mrgreen:

Ok thanks, I think the same. Better to be prepare for the future than solve things fast!
