Why not use clamping? BCD eats a ton of memory and thus limits severely how big your renders can be.

Re: Laci's wip
toying around with different importance settings per lights... Can recover sun and performance is great. Still using very low clamping values but it helps to see what takes most damage from it...

Re: Light strategies and importance change lighting
No without some type of warmup with rejection of samples during that period or some additional memory storage. A solution that may be worth trying is the BCD spikes removal option without the denoiser part. It uses a samples histogram (i.e. the additional memory I was talking about) to reject sampl...

Light strategies and importance change lighting
I always thought that light strategy only change how lights are sampled. So for example some lights can be noisier when undersampled. However clamping with low values also kills lights with low importance either due to light strategy or if you manually change importance. Now I understand that this m...

Re: Usability and Luxcore workflow streamlining ideas
Simple way will be to put distant generic sun as default. What do you think ? I know I could appear as a stupid but I can't really understand the difference from a distant light and a sun light. My background is 3dsmax and Vray. Before Vray added VraySun light type, you have to use a directional li...

Re: Usability and Luxcore workflow streamlining ideas
A small suggestion for the GUI: I think it would be easier to set the brightness of the lamps in lumens instead of watts and efficacy . As incandescent bulbs are becoming increasingly irrelevant, the lumens value is being used more and more widely. I agree. maybe atleast a switch/dropdown menu with...

Re: Usability and Luxcore workflow streamlining ideas
Regarding sunsky: I'd like to see a "haze" option that fades distant objects automatically into the sky color (basically all materials would be mixed with emissive sky color according to their distance from the camera). This would provide a depth effect to exterior renders. It would be si...

Re: Usability and Luxcore workflow streamlining ideas
It seems to me, that most of what your wrote would be solved, if the Distant was the default mode of the sun. In this case there could be a Physically correct switch, which triggered the current behavior. Note, I dont't have any problems with the curren hit behavior of the sun, I love, that LuxCore...

Re: Laci's wip
It could just be caused by the behaviour of clamping that Dade explained here: https://forums.luxcorerender.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=700&p=7221#p7221 But I'm not entirely sure. I really don't know. But it doesn't make any sense to have to change light importance to correct lighting because c...

Re: Laci's wip
Here.. Now I'm using both logpower and clamping and I have weak and strong lights contributing as much as needed(this is just eyeballing it) And I got this result by setting world importance to 4 and sun to 10!!! wtf, is this really how importance works? Cause I though it could make some lights more...
