Creation of caustics requires the use of the bidirectional renderer.
Here's one I prepared earlier: download/file.php?id=625&mode=view

Re: Open Shading Language
Thanks for the response. The thin film interference I was referring to is the optical phenomenon https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thin_film_interference The OSL shader I was referring to: https://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?403299-UPDATE-v1-6-Cycles-PBR-thin-film-interference-and-metals I w...

Open Shading Language
Has any thought been given to the possibility of enabling the use of OSL shaders in LuxCore? I don't (yet) understand the complexities that would involve, or even if it is possible, so my apologies if it is a naive question. I was just thinking that would be a way of extending the range of possible ...

Re: Unsupported photometric type IES file: 2
If this converter code is open source we could integrate it in the addon or Luxcore. That would be nice, but I couldn't find any reference to source code. I think they use the term 'open' to mean free, not open source. Unfortunately IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) seems to be strongly focuss...

Re: Unsupported photometric type IES file: 2
After still more searching, I found a good explanation of the different photometric types in IES files at http://www.ransen.com/photometric/Type-A-Type-B-Type-C-IES-IESNA-Photometry-Files.htm . This indicates that IES Type B - the type that caused the error in LuxCore - is used for floodlights, so p...

Re: Unsupported photometric type IES file: 2
After further research it seems my understanding was completely wrong ( same old, same old...) I found a link to the IES file format documentation at http://lumen.iee.put.poznan.pl/kw/iesna.txt . Digging through that document indicates that the critical part of the IES file is the first line o...

Unsupported photometric type IES file: 2
I'm curious about an IES file I downloaded from GE for a billboard floodlight. When I tried to load the IES file in an Emission node I received the error "Unsupported photometric type IES file: 2". I looked through the LuxCore source and headers, and found: const size_t vpos = templine.fin...

Re: Blue glass caustics less intense
Thanks for the responses. @Dade, yes I think you're right about this being a perception issue. BYOB's observation demonstrated that well. @BYOB, good idea about checking the colour values numerically, I should have thought of that. The result is even more dramatic when getting the colour values in t...

Blue glass caustics less intense
While creating a scene in Blender with glass caustics (using BlendLuxCore 2.0alpha5) I noticed that it was difficult to produce intense caustics from blue glass. I decided to do a test comparing the caustics produced by applying different colours to the same glass object. I've attached the result, a...
