Re: playing with caustics
Thanks ajm for the hint, that was my very first LuxCore animation and I really made that stupid noob mistake to render with automatic tonemapping
Now I have rerendered it and replaced the file with the original link intact, looks way better !

Re: first steps
I removed the hills, didn't like the idea. What do you mean by mix with emissive background? Like composite those hill objects with background? or add emissive shader to the shader hills have? Yes, add an emissive shader with your mist color (should be close to sky color) and mix it with the hill m...

That was rendered @2048x1280 in 2h (sorry, don't remember sample count), then PS denoised and saturation enhanced.

Re: first steps
Awesome stuff, really great renders!
About the mist problem:
Instead of image pipeline (depth channel) mist you could try to mix the hill material with emissive background color.

Re: BIDIRVMCPU
Have you tried with clamping around 50‘000? Or adjusting settings for metropolis? E.g. 5%, 128 or 8192, 0.5% Tonenapper Reinhard: 1.0,1.0,2.5 to 4.0? (automatic swiched off on tab for linearity) With Bidir+metro I tried all possible combinations (2%, 8192, 80% worked better) but never did the refle...

Re: BIDIRVMCPU
There is a problem in using vertex merging and Metropolis sampler at the same time. The problem is between the multi-pass nature of VM and Metropolis. I would say the answer is no, nothing is planned until the problem is solved. I understand the problem is still not solved? Being stuck in my attemp...
