increase samples by surface or object?

Having some issues in scenes where small details are taking a while to smooth out noise. Is there a way that specific objects can be prioritised for sampling? Or should I trust the adaptive sampling? How can I know it is working well though? I'm paranoid that samples are being wasted on flat surface...

Re: Very long wait for caches enabled

After trying blocking volumes, thickening the floor, setting face smoothing to flat.. in the end what resolved it was changing the wall geometry so that part of it did not intersect with the floor geometry. Intresting to know. Will avoid this in future.

Do walls have thickness ?
no, they don't actually. Is this what causes it?

You can try to raise the brute force radius scale, but this will lower rendering performance because the cache will be used less (over the whole image).
Or you could disable cache usage for the floor (in the material output node advanced settings).
Brilliant idea! Thanks.

Very nice. Newton would be impressed.

Re: Very long wait for caches enabled

I've also noticed some reflection errors with PhotonGI cache, see attached. Seems to only be a problem when viewed at a glancing angle to the surface. What parameter can be changed to improve this?

The long cache processing time is probably due to the scattering volume seen in the image, producing volumetric cache entries.
I thought this would be easy to test, so I removed the volume, cache processing time didn't change.

Re: Very long wait for caches enabled

although other camera angles are takin considerably longer, see attached. You have to consider how slow is your CPU: the pre-process of the same scene will take less than 5 minutes on an AMD 3900x. Anyway, what do you mean with "camera angles" ? Other point of views ? Yes, other point of views. Int...
