Re: Speed comparison: LuxCore vs Cycles

It could be that Cycles is faster in such a simple scene. In fact luxcore is faster in complex scenes. It's like if you compare speedvise a sport car and a jet and you take the speed after the first 100 meters... the car will be probably faster. But if you take the speed at 1 km, 10km, 100km or 100...

Speed comparison: LuxCore vs Cycles

I recently saw a video by Dravia comparing LuxCore to Cycles, and the results were really good for LuxCore. I then did a dummy test with a cube, and a plane with a basic texture, and I couldn't get a decent result in LuxCore, the renders have much more grain compared to Cycles. Either, it's due to m...

Re: Volumetric breaks at mesh intersection

Sorry for the delayed response, B.Y.O.B Selecting CUBE_Volume in the camera volume dropdown did the trick. Now the result is different from my initial setup, it looks darker and dimmed, but I guess it's just a matter of tweaking the settings in order to bring back more light into the scene. Thanks a...

Re: Volumetric breaks at mesh intersection

Put your homogeneous fog volume node into an own volume node tree (like the camera volume you have now). Which I assume would be something like this (not assigned to anything in the scene) Snipaste_2020-09-03_15-06-27.png Then use a pointer node to refer to this fog volume both as interior volume o...

Re: Volumetric breaks at mesh intersection

I'm sure I'm doing this wrong. I've updated the Cube shader like so:

I don't want to keep bugging you with newbie questions. If there's a tutorial I'll take a look (I couldn't find any so far..)

Re: Volumetric breaks at mesh intersection

Yes. Disable auto-detection, and you will be able to specify the volume manually. Auto-detection only works if the surface in the middle of the film has correct interior/exterior volumes assigned (e.g. in your case, fog as exterior volume). However since it can be annoying to go through all materia...

Re: Volumetric breaks at mesh intersection

Dade wrote: Thu Sep 03, 2020 10:44 am It works also if it inside and you assign the volume to the camera.

Thanks for the heads up, Dade.

How do I do that?
Is it related to this?

Re: Volumetric breaks at mesh intersection

It turns out everything works fine if the camera is positioned outside the volume as FarbigeWelt suggested.

Thanks!

Volumetric breaks at mesh intersection

This is my first test with LuxCore Volumetrics, sorry if the solution has already been mentioned in the forum. I searched but no luck. (Ignore the quality of the image, it's for testing purpose only) Basically, I'm translating what I usually do in Cycles to Lux and I'm noticing something strange hap...

Re: Performance issues

@ Dade, Sharlybg, B.Y.O.B. Thank you, that did the trick! I'm experimenting with the block size and the pixel size values and is indeed much more responsive. Of course, at some point, I run into the light tracing limit. If I'm using caustics the result is quite messy. The preview gets stuck at the b...
