Re: Unreal Engine 5 alpha aviable

https://youtu.be/nvLUa4GYU74 Yes Lumen still has some issues and full hw raytracing is still not yet supported. VR has issues and no translucency. It's early access but when it works it works fantastic. It is definitely going the right direction to become offline rendering killer. Not even mentionin...

Re: Problems for getting the caustics in a pool

This part needs a little bit more depth or darker color, it's pure white and also too close to the surface. That's a correct behaviour. Exactly how it would look in real life: shallow water clear/deep shows absorption... Same for caustics, shallow water sharp and deeper water blurry. Trying to make...

Re: Cycle X (and OpenCL)

I didn't understand the situation. Are we in a panic? No but there is quite big strategic decision ahead: what to do ? And how to get there ? My current feeling is to start to make (most of) CPU code compatible with CUDA C++: you can compile the code with a normal C++ compiler for CPUs or with CUDA...

Re: Cycle X (and OpenCL)

as you seeit's even worst...2X power absorption for 1.5x-1.7x performance boost. Octane bench shows score of 130 for gtx1080 vs 655 for 3090... It's one thing that 3090 alone is a special terrible case of crazy power consumption, but to claim 6x for 6x performance, or even 1.5 performance boost is ...

Re: Cycle X (and OpenCL)

"lacilaci" Hi, I'm here reffering to your post of page 4. I think Nvidia almost did not delivered any performance x Watt improvement during the past 6 years. A new Nvidia card, if it is 4 times faster as an old one, it consumes 4 times more power. Not the same we can say about the CPU ind...

Re: Faster Compiling kernels

Direct X 12 (which has existed for a while, but only works on Windows 10) = Vulkan = Metal. All Low Level graphics Apis, with compute shaders. Why don't people use these technologies if they are as good? UE4 already has a full blown pathtracer that runs on dx12, I think it's also made by the guy th...

Re: Faster Compiling kernels

If everyone had/wanted Nvidia cards then Opencl is pointless Everyone who is doing CG professionally is already using an nvidia card. AMD only seem to care about competing with gaming side of things, providing cheaper gaming hw. Apple on other hand with their metal might be a proper alternative for...

Re: Product rendering issues

here I chose more extreme color to better illustrate that even if I set BG visibility to specular only I still see red bg affecting diffuse and gloss
red.jpg
Now that I think of it, If I could turn everything except case into holdout it could help a bit too, which is yet another issue :D

Product rendering issues

Problem 1 Somewhat continuing on the topic of having in-render background visibility without affecting other rays... Here's my test render that's giving me problems problem.jpg here is some official product render from another company from internet providing cases for those max airpods noproblem.jp...
